It is another Wednesday and time for another midweek chat. This time we are talking about what we’re stitching, needlepointing, stumpwork, young stitchers, male stitchers, stitching without infrastructure. Our Sunday guest: Tanya Brockmeyer of The Scarlett House–Gary and Christine

Two people you might want to interview because 1) they’re cool and 2) they have designs younger stitchers might enjoy. Something I like about both of them is not much snark or crude language.

I have a copy of Issue 1 of Jamie’s new magazine and it’s very modern. I’ve been a backer since the beginning and can’t wait for Issue 2.

This question how to attract younger stitchers interests me greatly. I’m usually one of the youngest people at the classes I attend and I’m not young.
The “stitch police” are a real thing. The shop owners and teachers I work with are great; I find them 100% happy to see younger people. Unfortunately, many of the older women I’ve encountered in public or in classes aren’t welcoming. They can be downright rude about technique, judgement of ability to afford the hobby, etc. I have thick skin, but it shouldn’t be necessary.
I liked your comments about how stitching doesn’t have to be expensive; that’s a real concern for people. There are thrifty ways to do the hobby and you pointed out some good ones!
Amy,
Thanks for listening and for the feedback. Much to think about. Also, we appreciate the guest suggestions.
