Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 8-31-22

Heart by Cindy Baldwin.
It’s Wednesday and Cindy and Gary felt the need to gather and talk about needlework. This week we talked about the Mystery in St. Tropez project, pros and cons of removing selvage from needlepoint canvas, the difference between warp and weft and the fact that we really don’t have a clue, when to cut threads in lengths and when not to, storing threads, and the importance of being constructive when instructing and/or helping others. Note that there is no Stitch Hour tonight. We’ll return next Wednesday night. Sunday’s guest: David McCaskill.–Cindy and Gary

Our conversation this week with the talented and versatile Tracy Franklin is sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery (sassyjacksstitchery.com) and Avlea Folk Embroidery (avleaembroidery.com). Tracy is a graduate of the Royal School of Needlework, where she spent 10 years teaching and coordinating before starting her own business. She still teaches for the RSN in Durham while developing her own designs and teaching live and online classes. In our conversation, we learn about her early years in the costume-making industry, the many things she learned at the RSN, her design approach, the dynamic artist community in which she works, and her role as Head Broderer at the Durham Cathedral, a World Heritage Site. Be sure to visit Tracy’s website and explore the Durham Cathedral website.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk with Shana Benhayoun II

The new SBT Stitches store.

This week’s conversation with Shana Benhayoun is sponsored by the Embroiderers’ Guild of America at egausa.org. When we first talked with Shana in 2018, she was getting her painted-canvas design business underway and having great success creating original pieces that, in particular, had great appeal to younger stitchers. But painting canvases wasn’t enough for Shana. Since that conversation, she has created and opened a new store in the Miami area while continuing to create canvases on a limited basis. Shana is constantly stretching the envelope and her beautiful store is one more step in the journey. Enjoy our conversation and explore all that Shana has to offer at sbtstitches.com and on her social-media pages.–Beth and Gary
