Avlea’s Aegean Sunrise getting attached to Beth’s jean jacket.
Wednesday has arrived and we’re chatting. Topics include our May 14 mental health and needlework show, EGA National Seminar registration changes, summer stitching time, traveling projects, the Gay Ann Rogers whitework sampler sale, stitching muscle memory, and our June 1, Not One More Thing attempt to go an entire year without buying new projects and other needlework items. Exceptions to the buying stoppage are purchases from the Sassy Jacks store opening, additional threads for an existing project, projects already ordered, 2024 projects that need to be purchased ahead of time, the Gay Ann Rogers whitework sampler sale, gifted items. Join us or watch from the sidelines to see when our willpower collapses. Note that there won’t be any new shows until the May 31 Midweek Chat.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk: Mental Health & Needlework

The King’s Pineapple by Kathy Andrews.
Trevelyon’s Garden by Kathy Andrews.

May is Mental Health Month and it’s important to discuss the subject at all levels to raise awareness and and encourage people in need to seek professional help. This week, in a show sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery, Kathy Andrews, of The Unbroken Thread, joins Beth and Gary to explore the many aspects of mental health and the role needlework plays in helping people cope with long-term and daily stresses and mental issues. Note that we are not trained professionals and are only offering our thoughts and opinions. If you are struggling with mental-health issues, seek professional help but keep in mind that your needle and thread can make a difference.–Kathy, Beth, and Gary

Fiber Talk with Claire Edwards

Claire’s current designs focus on the colors and textures of coral reefs.

Sassy Jacks Stitchery is sponsoring this week’s conversation with Claire Edwards, The Nomadic Maker. Claire and her partner have a unique lifestyle. Their permanent dwelling is a large mobile home and, when Beth isn’t teaching, they travel all over Europe. Living a nomadic life provides Claire with a never-ending source of inspiration for her nature-based needle art. Her current activities involve calling attention to the beautiful colors and textures of coral and coral reefs. In the conversation, we also explore how she created the amazing Rising from the Ashes dress and her experiences winning the 2017 Hand and Lock prize and the Bradford Textiles Competition three times. Claire has a unique approach to needle art that takes full advantage of her roving lifestyle. Be sure to visit her online channels to see and learn more.–Beth and Gary
