We return for another midweek chat, even though Christine is barely chatting. Topics this week are Houston stitchers, award-winning projects by Arlene Cohen and Karen Garinger, what we’re stitching, Christine’s recent book acquisition, and The Attic’s Summer School. Sunday’s guest is Arlene Cohen. We hope you enjoy the show and will tell others about Fiber Talk.–Gary and Christine
Cross stitching and samplers are our subject this week with our guest, Susan Greening Davis. Susan is a needle artist/technician who has designed and taught for shops, guilds, and events for more than 40 years. She has studied in Denmark, England, Spain, Germany, Italy, and with the Danish masters who visited the United States.
Davis was the Education Chairman for the International Needlearts Retail Guild for four years and, in her career, has chaired several panels, lectures, and charitable events to promote needlearts education. She is a “hands on” teacher, who can teach left-and right-handed students. Susan was named DMC International Teacher of the Year.
Kim Young of Sassy Jacks Stitchery also joins us briefly to talk about their new Quaker Sampler Chapter Club.

This week we chat with all four of the designers who make the annual Needle Arts Mystery Retreat happen–Pat Hartman, Mary Knapp, Linda Reinmiller, and Debbie Rowley. These four talented ladies collaborate each year to design a piece that is stitched by the retreat attendees in any of four colorways. Our conversation explores how this 13-yr.-old event got started, how it works, the role each designer plays, what attendees learn, and what’s planned for 2018 in San Diego. It’s a fun conversation with four talented needlepoint designers.
