Fiber Talk with Stephanie Bishop

One of the many steps involved in dyeing fabric.

One of the fun aspects of starting a new project is selecting the ground cloth. There are so many options available to stitchers and one of the more creative providers is this week’s guest, Stephanie Bishop of Fabrics by Stephanie. This week’s show is sponsored by the Embroiderers’ Guild of America and Avlea Mediterranean Folk Embroidery. In our conversation, we learn how Stephanie got started with the art of dyeing fabric, get a sense of what’s involved in creating ground cloth, gain some insight into the struggles providers are experiencing getting materials during the pandemic, and find out where some of her fabric names originated. We hope you enjoy learning about the world of ground-cloth dyeing.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk with Amy and Memory Baker

The tempting thread wall at Barefoot Needleart, Surfside Beach, SC.

New needlework shops are always exciting and its fun to learn how they got started and all the work that goes on before the doors can open. This weeks’s guests, Amy and Memory Baker, are owners of the new Barefoot Needleart shop in Surfside Beach, SC. The shop is fulfillment of a dream for two ladies who have always loved cross stitch. Barefoot Needleart is open now and the grand opening is Sept. 18. In addition to learning how the shop was put together and the sweat that went into the thread wall, we discover that Amy and Memory love to stitch HAED designs and have discovered the amazing versatility of the Cricut machine. We hope you enjoy hearing about their journey and encourage you to support Barefoot Needleart.–Gary
