Fiber Talk with Cindy Lee Gershin

Original Hardanger design by Cindy Gershin.
Golden Captured Heart by Cindy Gershin

Avlea Mediterranean Folk Embroidery is sponsoring this week’s show with Cindy Lee Gershin. The objective of the show is to provide needleworkers with insights from a veteran needlework judge. You’ll learn what matters and doesn’t matter when judges evaluate needlework, common errors/flaws, and how to evaluate your finished work to reduce the chance that you missed something. We also talk about finishing projects and discuss that well-worn topic of glass or no glass. As a companion to this podcast, Cindy will join us for the July 28 Stitch Hour to show examples of good and flawed needlework and to answer your questions. Join us at 8:00 p.m. on the Fiber Talk YouTube channel to learn more about how to improve your needlework.–Gary

Fiber Talk with Melinda Sherbring

Sweet bag, Borage side by Melinda Sherbring.
Elizabethan Enchantment by Melinda Sherbring

This week’s show is sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery and the Embroiderer’s Guild of America. Our guest is the multi-faceted, extremely talented designer and teacher, Melinda Sherbring. You’ll have a hard time deciding what aspect of Melinda is most interesting. It could be her work with the Hubble telescope, her medieval alter-ego Eowyn Amberdrake and Society of Creative Anachronism activities, historic-needlework research in some of the most famous collections in the world, sophisticated design work, or teaching activities, or all of the above. It was an absolute treat to hear from this very talented needle artist and we’re confident you’ll be tempted to explore her designs.–Gary and Beth

Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 7-14-21

Take Wing from Joanna Kabanoff of Mojo Stitches. Kits from Sassy Jacks at wetalkfiber.com/wing.
It’s the day in the middle and we have some big announcements. Probably the biggest is that Fiber Talk will be attending and broadcasting live shows, interviews, and exhibit tours from the EGA Seminar in Sept. We’re very excited to be able to share the event with those who can’t attend. We also will be celebrating World Embroidery Day on July 30 with a three hour stitch-and-chat show from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Eastern on the YouTube channel. Join us and three designers for some fun needlework conversation. Friday night at 8:00 p.m. on the YouTube channel, Beth and Gary will be doing a live show to talk about our painted-canvas projects. Tonight, on the Fiber Talk Stitch Hour, also at 8:00 p.m. on the YouTube channel, we’ll learn how to do needle lace with Carrie Noess. In addition, Beth and Gary talk about experimenting with threads, substituting when threads don’t work out, whether perfection is really that important, where we find joy in stitching, and how much we like the Adjust-A-Frame stretcher bars. We hope you enjoy the show and can participate in our upcoming events.–Beth and Gary
