Fiber Talk with Ekta Kaul

A map design by Ekta Kaul.
Use Ekta Kaul’s design to stitch your memories of Paris.

Our artist this week is Ekta Kaul, a very talented designer and needleworker who specializes in embroidered maps. This week’s show is sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery and the Embroiderers Guild of America. Maps are a most-unique approach to embroidery art and, once you delve into them, offer embroiderers projects that have meaning at so many levels and from a variety of perspectives. We had a terrific conversation with Ekta, learning about her origins in India, move to London, how she developed her art, and the classes, projects, and commissioned work she offers today. Enjoy the show and visit Ekta’s online channels to see more of her work.–Gary

Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 7-7-21

Beth is going to stitch this painted canvas.

Seven days have passed since we last did this Midweek Chat thing and time has given us more to talk about. This week Beth and Gary begin exploring painted-canvas needlepoint projects, talk about Gary’s studio progress, and talk about using historical art and designs in today’s needle arts. Are we being honoring those in the past? Being respectful? Keeping old things alive so history isn’t forgotten. No clear answer but a topic worth discussing. Sunday’s guest: Ekta Kaul–Beth and Gary
