Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 2-1-23

It was warm in Connecticut in January says Jenifer’s project.

It’s Wednesday and we’re talking about needlework. This week we scrounged up several topics including Alison and Steve Cole and their casket project, the tremendous needlework Margaret Hagen showed us in last week’s Stitch Hour and the big sale going on now at The Essamplaire, the shocking fact that Gary has been stitching regularly and making significant progress, storing thread and the new stitcher organization products Jenny White of Lucky Jonquil is producing with her laser cutter, how tight to wind floss on bobbins, how we store thread is a reflection of our personalities, Jenifer’s temperature project, Jenifer’s temari group and its longevity, and whether we have stitching mentors. Sunday’s guest: Andrea Santiamo, new owner and editor of “Needlepoint Now.”–Jenifer and Gary

Fiber Talk with Alison and Steve Cole

Interior view of Little Bit of Luxe casket by Alison and Steve Cole.
This week’s show is a special video with Alison Cole and her husband Steve. In the video we learn about the Cole’s new casket project, Little Bit of Luxe. This is a project that has been in the works for several years. The needlework design is Alison at her finest and it’s always interesting to learn what’s behind her creations. Equally interesting is the wooden casket that underlies the needlework. It took a great deal of time and several iterations for Steve to create the box and its secret compartments and he shares all that went into that design effort. It’s a fascinating collaboration that resulted in an affordable and approachable casket project. You can watch the video at the Fiber Talk Website, wetalkfiber.com, by going to wetalkfiber.com/casket, or by visiting the Fiber Talk YouTube channel. We hope you enjoy this special Fiber Talk video show and encourage you to visit Alison Cole’s website to learn more.–Beth and Gary

Anne Brooke has developed a terrific business with a no-plan strategy and is having great fun sharing and teaching her needlework skills. She is also an author, has one of the best studio/design spaces we’ve seen, and has developed some innovative and creative projects such as Tagroulette, collage boxes, and Sew4theSoul kits. The H-anne-dashery aspect of her business produces beautiful woodwork products and she regularly offers Project Half Done Days in her classroom. We also explore the many ways she uses recycled/upcycled cloth and other materials in her designs.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 1-18-23

Gary has missed only one day of stitching in January and the banding sampler shows a lot of progress.

We’re back! Finally! Sorry about the long delay and thanks to our listeners for your patience and understanding. This week we talk about Apple service (it’s good) and Apple communication (meh), WIPs and starting/not starting projects, too many WIPs, the new “Needlepoint Now” owners and their first issue, Gary’s first meeting with the Show-Me Stitchers, stretcher bars and storing idle projects, creating that stitching habit, Beth’s family demanding that her HAED come back from the dead, Gay Ann Rogers’ new heart design and her designs in general, our new schedule, and next week’s Stitch Hour guest, Margaret Hagen. Note that there is no Stitch Hour tonight. Sunday’s guest: Anne Brooke of HanneMade by Anne.—Beth and Gary

The Computer Saga Continues

One more delay. My machine is back in my hands. The good news is that Apple did me a huge favor and replaced everything but the display for the price of the battery. Basically, I have a new computer. The bad news is, even though I have a full backup, getting things back in order is a bit of a task. As a result, no podcast today. Beth and I will have a podcast Wednesday and we’ll be off and running from there. Thanks to everyone for your patience.–Gary
