This week’s Midweek Chat is a new video Gary recorded with talented needlepointer Mary McGuire. In the video Gary and Mary discuss Mary’s 10 favorite threads and look at the effects they have in several needlepoint designs and painted canvases. Mary’s favorites are Petite Very Velvet, Impressions, Gloriana silks, Threadworx overdyed floss, Vineyard silk, Petite Sparkle Rays, DMC Floche, Watercolors and Wildflowers, DMC Perle Cotton, and Kreinik metallics. We hope you enjoy this thread exploration and will maybe identify one or two you’d like to try on your next project.–Christine and Gary
Our first guest in 2018 is needlepoint designer Lorene Salt. We first encountered Lorene’s work when we learned that she is doing a year-long project with Needle Artists by the Sea, using her stunning Autumn Kaleidoscope design. Lorene was a cross stitcher until she ran into Gayle Bicknell’s Pieces of Eight design. Stitching that excellent piece of needlepoint addicted her and it wasn’t long before she was using her fashion design background to create her own designs. In addition to designing, she has completed all three levels of the Embroiderers Association of Canada’s Canvaswork Correspondence courses and teaches regularly in Canada and the U.S. We had a great time talking about stitching with Lorene and hope you’ll enjoy listening to the conversation.–Christine and Gary

The holidays are over and we’re back for another year of needlework chit chat. Out of the gate we get caught up in a discussion about movie and TV show costumes, then move on to books we received as Christmas gifts, and finish up with some general stitching talk. In other words, the usual midweek chat. Sunday our guest is Lorene Salt. Next Wednesday, Gary and Mary McGuire talk about Mary’s favorite threads in a new video.–Gary and Christine

It’s hard to stitch if you can’t see well and, for most of us, seeing well requires a good pair of glasses. This week, in a show sponsored by CyberPointers, Kelly Lea Teske returns to help us better understand how to make the most of our next visit to the eye doctor and the optician. […]
