You may want to own this book from RSN.Ah, Wednesday–That day of the week that allows you to look forward to a weekend of stitching. Here to chat this week are Gary and Arlene and our subject is books that needleworkers should consider owning. We don’t have to go far to find the books either. All we have to do is delve into Arlene’s vast collection and borrow from Gary’s lame library. Have a pen and paper ready to make notes and enjoy the discussion.–Arlene and Gary
Make some notes as you enjoy this week’s video about needlework books:
I hope you enjoy this show. I’m always looking for guests, so let me know if there is someone you’d like me to have on the show.

Thanks to Arlene Cohen and Gary for this interesting take on needlework books! I must reorganize my library now!
I have some of the same books by Trish Burr, the Royal School of Needlework, Jane Nicholas, an older copy of the DMC color chart.
I can recommend also books by Search Press of Australia such as the ‘A- Z of Embroidery Stitches’. There is a series of ‘A – Z’ books. Also the Milner Craft Series of Australia has a series, with titles such as ‘Decorative Designs in Hardanger’. Helen M. Steven’s ‘World of Embroidery’ published by D&C (in the US), is beautiful, as are all of her books that I have seen. She does a distinct style of needle painting I think you would call it. Also have a beautiful book by Gary Clarke and an art history book of by Gail Sirna, featuring women doing needle work in classic paintings. It is called ‘In Praise of the Needlewoman’…published by Merrill (London, UK). I took a workshop in canvas work from her about ten years ago!
I have bought some of the books from http://www.berlinembroidery.com. She has many of the British and Australian books (Tanja Berlin’s online shop…she ships internationally). Others I have from book sales and charity tables, plus from my dear late stepmother’s collection. At our needlework guild we have an exchange, where people bring in items and others take them, for a donation to our annual charity! So actually I collect a lot of books sometimes!
My apologies for the confusion. The shows on Dec. 4 and 11 are videos, not regular audio podcasts. Thus they won’t show up on your podcast app. You can see them on the Fiber Talk website or our YouTube channel. We’ll be back to regular audio podcasts Dec. 15. Gary

Same problem as the comments above – I haven’t had a podcast episode since the midweek one on 4th Dec – not coming in to my iphone podcast app automatically like usual.

Wednesday is a favorite because we get to talk about needlework. In this week’s show we remember Jean Lea, talk about a Valentine’s Day registration offer for the Fiber Talk Needle Arts retreat, discuss our attempts to stitch every day and what projects are in the rotation, look at some casket stitching, enjoy some Gay […]
The passing of Jean Lea will leave a huge void in the needlework world, particularly for those who love, reproduce, and stitch samplers. In addition to being a terrific person, Jean was widely known as the owner of The Attic, one of the few true destination needlework shops. Anyone who spent any time with her […]
The life of a military wife, living in upstate New York, and the pandemic catalyzed Caroline Gilman’s interest in needlepoint. Our conversation with Caroline is sponsored by Avlea Folk Embroidery and the Fiber Talk Needle Arts Weekend. During those hours in New York, Caroline found her home with painted-canvas needlepoint. It wasn’t long before she […]
We’re at the center of the week and Cindy and Gary have fired up the recording gear to talk about a new one-day option for the Fiber Talk retreat (wetalkfiber.com/weekend); request for questions for upcoming shows; Gary keeping up with Beth’s Stitch Every Day challenge; storing slate frames, scroll rods, and stretcher bars; marking stretcher […]
Imagine what your plain Jane sneakers would look like if they had a scene embroidered on the sides. Melissa Galbraith did just that and she wrote a book about it to help you turn your canvas shoes into works of art. Melissa is our guest this week and the show is sponsored by Sassy Jacks […]

I don’t seem to be able to find this episode on Google Podcasts or Apple’s podcast player. Is there anywhere else to find it?
