Fiber Talk with Gail Patterson

This week’s Fiber Talk podcast is sponsored by the Embroiderers’ Guild of America at egausa.org. Our guest is Gail Patterson, director and curator of the Spiralis Gallery. As Gail reaches the end of her career as an anesthesiologist, she already has a good start on her second career, curating Afro-Caribbean/Haitian art. In our conversation, we learn how Gail came to love Haitian art while volunteering her medical skills in Haiti. Her first art purchase was an interesting experience that led to an art collection of significant size. From that, Spiralis Gallery was formed as an online offering. In the coming weeks that website gallery will be partnered with a physical gallery in Easton, MD. Among the collection is some impressive textile and bead art, with more to come. Next week’s guest will be Gail’s partner, Susan Fay Schauer John, who creates stunning thread paintings.–Beth and Gary
