Fiber Talk with Helen Stevens

Flowers of the Sea by Helen Stevens
Sunbird by Helen Stevens

Embroidery artist Helen M. Stevens joins us this week in a show that is sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery and the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. Helen is, without doubt, one of the best, most creative, embroidery artists we have in the hobby today. The realism that she incorporates in her nature-oriented designs is rarely equalled. Her understanding of how thread interacts with light and how to use that to advantage makes her artwork visually stunning at all angles. She also is an accomplished author and recently released her first novel, “The Saxon Twins: The Needle and the Sword.” In addition, Helen is celebrating 20 years of contributions to “Inspirations” magazine We had a terrific conversation with Helen (with additional input from her parrot), learning what goes into creating outstanding needle art. Be sure to visit her website to purchase your copy of her 2023 calendar.–Beth and Gary

Encore: Fiber Talk with Anna Scott

Lyre bird design by Anna Scott.

House buying, packing, and moving activities are dominating the days and we’re going to have to take a two-week break from new Fiber Talk shows. We will have our regularly scheduled Stitch Hour tour at Gallery76 Wednesday, June 2 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. There will not be a Stitch Hour June 9. We’ll be back to our regular schedule on June 16. Thanks for understanding. To hold you over until we resume regular activities, this week we offer an encore presentation of a conversation we had last year with the talented Anna Scott, one of the top designers in the needle arts world and a regular contributor to “Inspirations” magazine. Learn about her design approach, ability to mix multiple techniques to achieve a design goal, and her dollhouse side hobby. Enjoy the show and we’ll be back in a couple of weeks.
