Fiber Talk with Kate Festo

Simple Joy design by Kate Festo.
Explorations by Kate Festo

Our conversation this week is with Kate Festo, a terrific designer and educator. The show is sponsored by Avlea Mediterranean Folk Embroidery (avleaembroidery.com). Kate Festo specializes and teaches silk and metal thread and Rozashi needlework, but is skilled in several techniques, including Japanese embroidery. She also is the daughter of Margaret Kinsey, who was our guest Sept. 19, 2021. It was fun exploring what it’s like to grow up with a master needleworker, the learning opportunities that were available in a very creative/artistic family, and how Kate developed her career and found her own path in the needle arts world. We also get a sense of the advantages of being a member of a needlework organization. At the end of the conversation, we explore, in some depth, the Rozashi technique. There’s much to learn from Kate and we hope you enjoy the show.–Gary
