Fiber Talk with Melissa MacLeod and Megan Holmes

These canvases and stitch guides are available from Melissa MacLeod at The Wool & The Floss.

They’re good friends who own needlepoint shops in different states. Melissa MacLeod owns The Wool &The Floss in Gross Pointe, MI, and Megan Holmes owns The Needlepoint Club House in Kirkwood (St. Louis), MO. They’ve taken different paths to where they are today and we get to learn about their needlepoint careers, how they’ve worked their way through this pandemic-induced boom time for needlework, and the trends they are seeing in the market. Be sure to visit their respective websites to learn more about the many activities they produce now and have planned for the future.–Gary

Fiber Talk with Melissa MacLeod and Kim Young

Projects on display at The Wool and The Floss

This week we talk about local needlework shops with Melissa MacLeod of The Wool and The Floss in Grosse Point, MI, and Kim Young of Sassy Jack’s Stitchery in Weaverville, NC. Local needlework stores are the lifeblood of our hobby because they provide a place in which stitchers can see and touch threads, look at project samples, get expert advice, take classes, and meet fellow stitchers. In recent years, many shops have had to close their doors. This week we talk to two people who are opening shops, to learn what they are doing and what they have planned for future growth. Melissa MacLeod recently purchased a long established shop, remodeled, and is now offering her version of a needlepoint and knitting business. Kim Young is rapidly building a following and a destination shop for stitchers. We hope you enjoy hearing how these two owners are working to build their businesses.–Christine and Gary
