We hear time and time again about the meditative and calming powers of needlework, particularly when life gets difficult. Kathy Andrews of The Unbroken Thread joined us for the Dec. 8 Fiber Talk Stitch Hour to talk about how she used needle and thread to help her deal with the roller coaster ride of emotions and reactions that accompanied her battle against breast cancer. Whether it’s cancer, death of a loved one, or some other challenging moment in life, Kathy is a shining example of how you can use stitching to keep yourself from losing it. “It’s cheaper than therapy.”

Fiber Talk with Kathy Andrews 2
It’s been three years since we talked with Kathy Andrews and we had a great time talking needle arts in a show sponsored by Stitchville USA and the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. We discussed historic techniques and designs, how they still hold up today, and the stories they offer to needleworkers. We also discuss the UFOs that are in us, going beyond simply stitching the prescribed design, and the differences between art stitching and project stitching. Special bonus: Mark your calendars to watch the Dec. 8 Stitch Hour at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on the Fiber Talk YouTube channel. Kathy will join us to show and talk about the series of art-stitching pieces she created to help her deal with her winning fight against breast cancer.–Gary and Beth
