Sign up today for the Fiber Talk Needle Arts Weekend retreat, March 21 to 23, 2025. Details at wetalkfiber.com/weekend
Our next project is the Phoenix Band Sampler by Northern Expressions Needlework.

We return from our holiday hiatus to talk about the upcoming Fiber Talk Needle Arts Weekend, March 21 to 23. Register today at wetalkfiber.com/weekend. We also talked about Beth’s Stitch Everyday challenge (Can you do it?), our 2025 plans to stitch the Phoenix Band Sampler by Northern Expressions Needlework and the Floral Runner wool applique project by The Woolen Needle, do live Tour de France shows this summer, and offer some special videos throughout the year. We also discussed what we plan to do individually. The general theme is to eat into the mountain of projects we already own. Join us for the Phoenix Band Sampler effort in a few weeks. Note that there is a version with specialty stitches and one that is just cross stitch, so everyone can participate. It’s going to be a fun year of stitching and learning. Sunday’s guest: Kevin Lustik–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 7-17-24

Fantasia: Stitched by Cindy Baldwin, designed by Debbie Rowley
Learn how to make these needle minders from Jessica Grimm at jessicagrimm.com/blog.
We are three sleeps from the weekend, so Cindy and Gary gathered to talk about needlework. This week’s topics include our upcoming Sunday show with Rita Gekht, followed by next week’s Stitch Hour in which Rita will give us a tour of the textile art exhibit at the New Hope Art Center. (Note that in the discussion, Gary got warp and weft mixed up. Warp is the vertical threads and weft is the horizontal.) We also talk about our plans for a Fiber Talk live event in March 2025 (send us your thoughts), basting ground cloth, the Tour de Broderie shows, wool and wool applique from The Woolen Needle, extending your Hardwicke Manor hoop stand, State Fair tips, Jessica Grimm’s needle minder finishing (learn how at https://www.jessicagrimm.com/blog), the value of alphabet samplers, breaking conventional practices when framing, and making ornaments. Fiber Talk with Annette Boland

Floral Pocket kits by Annette Boland, The Woolen Needle.
Hello Summer design by Annette Boland.
Wool applique, dyeing wool, and all things related is our focus this week. The show is sponsored by the Embroiderers’ Guild of America and our guest is Annette Boland of The Woolen Needle. A wool applique class Beth did with Annette triggered this conversation. We simply had to know more about the technique and the beautiful wool materials that make it possible. Annette designs wool applique, quilts, hooked rugs, and punch needle art. She also dyes wool, offers some beautiful variegated threads and, in her spare time, runs a shop and teaches classes. No matter what your favorite stitching technique, wool applique will make a fun, creative, diversion when you simply want to try something different. If you’re one of those stitchers who also quilts, Annette has some designs you’re likely to enjoy. It’s a fun conversation with a talented artist and we hope it will show you something different in the needle arts world.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 6-12-24

Floral Pocket wool applique designs by Sunday’s guest, Annette Boland of The Woolen Needle.
The day that’s in the middle of the week has arrived and it’s our 300th Midweek Chat. Our topics include our upcoming trip to Sassy Jacks Stitchery, June 24 and 25, and what we have planned and our upcoming Tour de France stitch sessions. We start with the Prologue on June 29 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern on the Fiber Talk YouTube channel for the Prologue. Join us as we stitch and talk about bike racing and other topics. You can also talk about thread spinning with Jenifer because that’s her favorite bike-racing activity. We also explore monogamous stitching, how it has changed how Jenifer goes about her needlework, and the mental benefits she’s realized. We also ask the question: Would you rather have two hours of flawless stitching or an uninterrupted day of stitching no matter how it comes out? Sunday’s guest: Annette Boland of The Woolen Needle–Jenifer and Gary
