We’re back for another midweek chat. This time we talk about our respective stitching activities, stumpwork, the Twisted Stitcher finishing another stocking for Gary, and go off on a tangent about the detailed aspects of stitching that may or may not make a difference in the finished project. 1. Hi Gary and Christine-
Enjoyed your podcast tonight on my commute home. I haven’t taken personally, but know that Tony Mineri does a series of “Back to Basics” classes that would likely address many of your questions concerning best practices in needlepoint.

Here is a link to his website: http://www.tonyminieri.com/back-to-basics/

Hope you find this useful. Tony would also be a fantastic guest!

    Keep the podcasts coming!

  2. For those who may be novices at cross stitching, one important technique is to have your cross stitches all go in the same direction. In other words, if you start in the upper left and cross to the lower right you should do this for every cross stitch. This does make a difference with the finished piece. I truly didn’t know this until I had been cross stitching for a long time. I was always concerned about doing the cross stitch so that I was not wasting thread, so what may have been more efficient with thread was not really visually pleasing!!

  3. Gary, Christine,
I’ve just been out for a walk so have caught up on Wednesday’s discussion.
I do really enjoy these mid-week podcasts – I think of them as Top Tips for Stitchers and I always learn something.
Re: the nap of the thread, right/wrong end of thread to use – – I have heard this discussion previously on various occasions – – and I think that the best explanation and discussion was (of course) done by Mary Corbet – and she has talked about this on more than one occasion. I’ve just had a quick search on her blog to see if I could find it – but I can’t see it. Perhaps one of your other listeners will have read Mary’s thoughts and be able to direct you to the relevant blog post.
