Fiber Talk with Nichole Vogelsinger

Detail of one of Nichole Vogelsinger’s embroidery pieces.
Embroidery and beadwork by Nichole Vogelsinger.

Nichole Vogelsinger of Wild Boho, is this week’s guest in a show sponsored by Avlea Folk Embroidery. Nichole is a creative free-form embroidery artist who uses a wide variety of stitches, lots of beads and other objects, and a bright, rich color palette to create highly textured and visually interesting needle art. She also makes extensive use of printed fabric from thrift stores to create art by embellishing the objects in the print. It was a delight to learn how Nichole creates her art. Visit her website and consider taking one of her classes. You’ll have fun and stretch your creativity.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk with Michael Cook

Blue silks produced by Michael Cook.

Wormspit is one of the great business names in the hobby and our guest, Michael Cook, is a fascinating talent. Michael raises silkworms from eggs, collects the silk filaments, twists them into thread, and dyes the thread. He doesn’t stop there. He also weaves and stitches while holding down a full-time job. We didn’t ask when he sleeps but we did have a great time learning about his silkworms and the beautiful, shiny silk they produce. After you listen to the podcast, be sure to check out the videos in the show notes and visit Michael’s website to learn more about how the silk threads we enjoy are produced.–Beth and Gary
