Fiber Talk with Jennifer White

Swatch thread drops from Lucky Jonquil.
Bobbins for heavy threads from Lucky Jonquil.

This week’s show with Jennifer White of Lucky Jonquil is sponsored by the Embroiderers’ Guild of America and Avlea Folk Embroidery. Note that FIBERTALK5 gets you $5 off when you sign up for Katherine Diuguid’s EGA class, “Haystacks of Giverny.” In our conversation with Jennifer White, we talk about her creative career, her new business venture, and new thread organizer products. Jennifer has some excellent thread bobbins and drops that improve your thread storage while adding an element of fun. She also followed quite an interesting journey from needlework as a child to needlework as an adult, with lots of other things in between. Be sure to watch the Feb. 8 Fiber Talk Stitch Hour (wetalkfiber.com/jonquil). Jennifer was our guest and we got to see her thread drops and bobbins and talk about their features.–Gary

Fiber Talk with Beth Hoyes

Lacewing butterfly embroidery by Beth Hoyes.
Pheasant feathers by Beth Hoyes.

This week we are joined by Beth Hoyes of Rabbit Hat Designs in a show sponsored by Avlea Folk Embroidery (avlea embroidery.com). Beth is an art therapist who recently moved to Colorado from the UK. Nature is what inspires Beth’s embroidery/needlepainting art, with a focus on the colors, shapes, and lines that occur when you close in on feathers, wings, and other animal body parts. Beth’s business is also very centered on offering sustainable products and packaging. We also learn about Beth’s upcoming book, “Beautiful Birds,” which will be available in June 2022. The book will offer instructions and 12 bird designs. It’s a terrific conversation with an energetic and talented needlework artist. After you listen to the show, take a few minutes to visit the Rabbit Hat Designs website to see all of Beth’s works.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 1-19-22

Debbie Rowley’s latest class design is Angles. Visit her website at debbeesdesigns.com to sign up for the class.
It’s the middle of the week in the middle of the month and Beth and Gary have gathered to help you spend your money. Our enabling efforts include the new Tree of Life embroidery kit from Avlea Folk Embroidery, the new Angles class from Debbie Rowley of Debbee’s Designs, and the new book “The Design Collective: Pincushions,” from the people at “Inspirations,” which you can buy from Mary Corbet (It’s sold out now, but we’re sure she’ll be getting more). We also talk about mixing science and needlework and Beth tries to convince Gary to buy a new light/magnifier before his current one breaks. Enjoy the show but keep your credit cards locked away if you don’t want to spend money. Also, join us tonight for Thread Talk with Cathe Ray of Needle in a Haystack on the Fiber Talk Stitch Hour. We start at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on the Fiber Talk YouTube channel.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk with Daniel Ravan

Rainbow Gallery threads.

One of the biggest factors making needlework so much fun these days is the wide variety of threads that are available. When it comes to variety and uniqueness, Rainbow Gallery is definitely the leader. This week, in a show sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery (sassyjacksstitchery.com) and Avlea Mediterranean Folk Embroidery (avlea.life), we talk with Daniel Ravan, CEO of Rainbow Gallery. It’s an insightful discussion into how the company has dealt with the pandemic and the demands it has placed on needlework materials, how Rainbow Gallery produces threads, and what inspires the next offering. It’s always fun to learn about what’s behind the materials we enjoy using and it was enjoyable to learn how Rainbow Gallery produces their products.–Gary
