Fiber Talk with Georgina Bellamy

Sculptural goldwork by Georgina Bellamy.
Goldwork needle art created by Georgina Bellamy.
This week’s Fiber Talk guest is That Embroidery Girl, Georgina Bellamy. The show is sponsored by Avlea Folk Embroidery. Out of commuting necessity, Georgina developed her technique for creating Sculptural Goldwork. She has combined that with her fashion background and a lot of determination to build a career designing and teaching impressive needle art. “Inspirations” magazine has published two of her designs. One is the Jewel of the Sea turtle that appears in the “Passion for Needlework, Blakiston Creamery” book. Georgina loves to teach and you can expect new classes in the near future. Her designs are impressive and unique, as is her needlework journey. Be sure to visit her social media pages to see more of her art.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 5-19-21

Basketweaving Jenifer did at the Celebration of Needlework event.

Jenifer returned from five days at the Celebration of Needlework event and Wednesday arrived so we decided to talk about her experiences, the projects she acquired, and her “restrained” shopping efforts. We also talk about what it’s like trying to fit in at an event such as this when you’re by yourself and don’t know anyone. For people who are basically introverts, it can be a challenge. We also touch on ergonomics in Gary’s upcoming studio, the various projects we have in play, and our upcoming Stitch Hour guests. Sunday’s guest: Susan Hoekstra.–Jenifer and Gary

Fiber Talk Meditates, 10-11-20

Today was our first in a series of seven shows focused on meditative stitching. We were joined today by Krista West of Avlea Mediterranean Folk Embroidery. She talked about what constitutes meditative stitching and the many health benefits it provides. Sheri Berger, the Colorado Cross Stitcher, then joined us to talk and demonstrate simple stretching exercises that will help you be more comfortable, particularly after long stitching sessions. That segment begins at 23:25. Here are some links to material that Krista West presented on meditative stitching. While the articles may refer to knitting, the information applies to all forms of needlework:
