Fiber Talk with Cath Janes

Heart by Cath Janes.
Baby by Cath Janes.
Our guest this week is Cath Janes of Kraken Kreations and the show is sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery, your source for all of the new Nashville releases. When it comes to Cath Janes, it’s hard to tell what is more impressive; her needlework and use of color or her amazing ability to accurately represent anatomical structures with needle and thread. In addition to her needlework talent, Cath’s journey is another example of the power of needle and thread to help deal with factors such as ADHD, postpartum depression, and multiple surgeries. In our conversation, we also talk about commission work and what it was like when professional medical illustrators included Cath’s creations among the best in the medical field.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 3-10-21

Stitched and finished by Sharon Bruce.
Chatting day has arrived and Beth and Gary got together to talk about the various changes we’re testing/making to our Springhill projects, color wheels and learning about color, and the perception of needlework as art, hobby, and/or craft. Note that all slots have been filled for the Cosmo solid-color club at Sassy Jacks. There are still slots available for variegated threads (wetalkfiber.com/variegated). Additional slots for solids will open up when Kim is able to increase inventory. Join us tonight for the Fiber Talk Stitch Hour. We’ll tour the new Basket Art exhibition with April as our guide. We start the tour at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on the Fiber Talk YouTube channel. Sunday: Lorraine Turner–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk with Kelly Fletcher

Desert Dreams embroidery patterns by Kelly Fletcher.

Kelly Fletcher is our guest this week. She is a talented embroidery designer and author located in Johannesburg, South Africa. In addition to an extensive library of designs, Kelly has authored three books and contributed to “Inspirations” magazine, among others. Her project book, “Embroidered Home,” has been translated to the Finnish language under the title “Kirjottu kissa.” It’s stitch variety and structure that drive Kelly’s designs, along with a bright and cheery palette. In our conversation we also learn about the significant role Kelly’s mother, a talented needleworker in her own right, has played in developing the Kelly Fletcher Needlework Design business. Enjoy the show and visit Kelly’s Etsy shop to see and purchase her designs.-–Gary
