Fiber Talk with Roberta Wagner

A piece Roberta created while exploring the nuances of tree bark.
Roberta Wagner’s book about the importance of art.
Sassy Jacks Stitchery sponsors this week’s show with textile artist Roberta Wagner. Roberta describes herself as an intuitive artist, which means she rarely starts with a plan. “Often, the idea behind my work is not apparent when I am making it. Rather, it’s an idea playing in my unconscious. Maybe it’s about time passage, or memories, what’s hidden from view, or grief. It’s only later, when the work is finished that I understand it.” In our conversation we explore that process and learn about the various materials she uses to create her art. One of the things we learn about is washi paper. You’ll also want to read Roberta’s book, “Come Walk With Me, Exploring Why Art Matters.” Exploring Roberta’s art and her approach to creating it was enlightening and it will make your wheels spin.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk with Jacqueline Fox

Autumn Barn Trio designs by Waxing Moon Designs.
October from the Waxing Moon Designs Monthly Trio series.

Cross-stitch designer Jacqueline Fox of Waxing Moon Designs is our guest this week. The show is sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery, your source for Waxing Moon Designs charts. Jacque learned how to do cross stitch from a college roommate and that set her on a path to creating her own designs. With a little nudging from the people at Stitchery Nook in Osage, IA, she created Waxing Moon Designs. Her focus is small designs and designs in series. She also uses a lot of overdyed floss because it gives her the visual effect she wants in her designs. Her designs are specifically created to be enjoyable to stitch and approachable by needleworkers of all skill levels. We also talk about Jacque’s commitment to supporting local needlework stores.–Gary
