Beth did some special stitches to enhance some of the Iesabella Kettlewell sampler motifs.Gary used a butterfly and an element from the border from Iesabella Kettlewell to make what will become a small pillow. This week’s show is sponsored by the Embroiderers’ Guild of America and the 2025 EGA National Seminar, Needlework Faire, Nov. 11 to 16 in Dallas, Texas. All of the details are at egausa.org, then select the Events page. One of the features of the national seminar is a new event called Sampler U, a two-day event open to EGA members and non-members. Sampler U will feature two projects: A Sampler Sewing Roll taught by Becky Noland of Lucy Beam and the beautiful sampler Iesabella Kettlewell 1818, taught by Sylvia Stecker of Running with Needles and Scissors. Sylvia will teach the sampler as a whole and the technique of making smalls from sampler motifs. To illustrate this approach, Beth and Gary made their own smalls from the Iesabella Kettlewell sampler and those smalls are the subject of this week’s show. Enjoy the show, let us know your thoughts, and register soon for the EGA National Seminar and/or Sampler U at egausa.org.–Beth and Gary

Gary’s threads and linen for the Beloved sampler from Running with Needles and Scissors. It’s our final Wednesday show of the year. But not our final show. Sunday’s podcast guests will be the Needlepoint Dads. Also, join us Friday, Dec. 15 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern on the Fiber Talk YouTube channel for a live Cindy Baldwin WIP parade. Then mark your calendar for Christmas Day when we’ll gather at 3:00 p.m. Eastern for some stitching and chatting for those who are home alone on Christmas or simply want to get together with fellow stitchers. In this week’s conversation, Jenifer and Gary talk about the Beloved chart by Running with Needles and Scissors, Pony needles, aspects of needlework we could do without, whether we actively shop for designs or let them come to us, Domestika classes, and Sashiko stitching. Overrated/underrated topics are color cross-stitch charts and taping hoops. It’s time for our annual holiday break. Happy Holidays to everyone in the Fiber Talk audience. Thanks for your support throughout another fun, stitch-filled year.–Jenifer and Gary

“Beloved,” a reproduction sampler from Running with Needles and Scissors.
Sylvia Stecker of Running with Needles and Scissors joins us this week for a show sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery and the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. Sylvia is an avid collector and reproducer of antique samplers. She’s lived in and visits Germany frequently so she brings a different view/experience to samplers than we usually see. Her “Beloved” reproduction is a true standout. Sylvia doesn’t stop at reproduction samplers. She also creates her own designs and has a very pleasing eye for her originals. Her button series is truly unique. Sylvia’s business is relatively new on the scene. She did her first Nashville Market this past spring and is already lining up designs for the 2024 market. Visit her website and follow her on Instagram and her FlossTube channel to keep up with all of the new things that are coming up.–Gary
