It’s Midweek Chat week and Beth and Gary connected through our respective internet providers to talk about eyeglasses and what we learned from Kelly Lea Teske, supporting Ukraine designer Ekaterina at stitchyprincess.etsy.com, selecting projects vs. being influenced by stitching friends, projects we have that need to be at the top of the pile, stitching in groups vs. alone, whether we could produce an exhibition with our finished pieces, stitching lights/magnifiers, group projects, choosing silk or metallic threads, and whether we would rather have talent or determination. This week’s Fiber Talk guest is Robin Mayer of Little Robin Designs. In addition to learning about her design approach, how she became addicted to samplers, and her preference for the primitive design style, we get some thread-storage ideas that might help all of us and will definitely help those whose needlework acquisitions have moved from stash to inventory. Robin also talks about her 2024 Nashville Market designs and her plans to deliver new designs throughout the year. Fiber Talk with Dr. Susan Kay-Williams & Dr. Isabella Rosner, RSN

Dr. Susan Kay-Williams, Executive Director of the Royal School of Needlework, returns this week, along with RSN Curator Dr. Isabella Rosner, in a show sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery. Our topic for this sixth visit from the folks at the Royal School is digitizing the entire Royal School of Needlework collection. This is the second, along with the RSN Stitch Bank, project that promises to significantly change the knowledge base needleworkers have at their disposal. Even more valuable is that the digitized collection and the RSN Stitch Bank will be connected in many ways. Maybe the best part is that these two monumental resources will be freely available to all needleworkers. In our conversation, we learn how this project got started, the vast amount of information that will be available, and when we’ll start seeing items from the collection. As with all other RSN activities, it pays to have your name on the school’s mailing list so you can keep up to date. Applause once again to the Royal School for its leadership role in educating needleworkers of all types and at all skill levels. Fiber Talk with Kathy Andrews IV

Kathy Andrews of The Unbroken Thread joins us this week for her fourth visit. The show is sponsored by the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. We also talk about the pros and cons of online and live teaching and designing for teaching vs. designing for art. Our main topic is the history behind the various motifs in reproduction samplers, Kathy’s upcoming research on alphabets and text, the Solomon’s Porch motif, and what Kathy has learned about samplers with mazes and/or labyrinths. While we typically focus on the girls who stitched the samplers, the elements that make up the samplers and their history is an equally, if not more, interesting topic.
