Fiber Talk with Sylvia Stecker

“Beloved,” a reproduction sampler from Running with Needles and Scissors.

Sylvia Stecker of Running with Needles and Scissors joins us this week for a show sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery and the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. Sylvia is an avid collector and reproducer of antique samplers. She’s lived in and visits Germany frequently so she brings a different view/experience to samplers than we usually see. Her “Beloved” reproduction is a true standout. Sylvia doesn’t stop at reproduction samplers. She also creates her own designs and has a very pleasing eye for her originals. Her button series is truly unique. Sylvia’s business is relatively new on the scene. She did her first Nashville Market this past spring and is already lining up designs for the 2024 market. Visit her website and follow her on Instagram and her FlossTube channel to keep up with all of the new things that are coming up.–Gary

Fiber Talk with Dawn Fisher

This 36-in.-long sampler will be available soon from Morning Glory Needleworks.
Dawn Fisher’s Alphabet of Stitchers sampler.
This week’s needle artist is Dawn Fisher of Morning Glory Needleworks. The show is sponsored by the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. Dawn’s love, passion, and specialty is reproducing antique samplers and her large collection contains some unique pieces. When she isn’t reproducing samplers, Dawn designs her own samplers, in addition to creating blackwork and whitework designs. Dawn also loves to teach needlework and does so regularly either live or online. A favorite teaching project is her popular button box. In our conversation we talk about the various aspects of Dawn’s stitching career and how she started Morning Glory Needleworks, shut it down to go to school, then renewed the business and made it her full-time love and occupation. At the end of the conversation we talk about a new design Dawn is finishing and will have available soon. Beth and Gary have claimed the first two copies, but there will be plenty for others.–Beth and Gary

Overrated/underrated topics this week are kits, Mary Corbet, and thread bobbins and drops. In the discussion, you may pick up on the fact that Jenifer is not a fan of thread drops. Are ort bowls overrated or underrated and is Gary’s collection ridiculous?
