I sympathize with Christine’s frustration with the back stitching. It is very common for the designers in English magazines to use this style. I love so many of the designs but won’t do them because I dislike back stitch that leaves half of an x hanging out. Fractional stitches are a good solution but won’t always work since there is often back stitching over multiple x’s and you would be required to figure out how to go much smaller than a quarter or half stitch.
