Big Foot is real!! Momentous sighting captured by Doug, the Floss Jedi, and verified by Vicki, Ixstitch. It’s the third day after Sunday, Sassy Jacks is the sponsor, and Gary and Vonna are the chatters. The subjects include our Friday Night Live shows; recent videos; favorite podcasts; a book suggestion from Gary; Vonna’s dreams; Vonna’s Big Foot obsession and a visit from the elusive one, captured by Doug, the Floss Jedi, and our 2020 stitching plans. 2020 could be the year in which Vonna does a Walnetto stitch. That will make Jean Hilton roll over in her grave! We hope you enjoy the show and invite you to join us on YouTube for our Friday Night Live show.–Vonna and Gary

Interesting to hear about all those different podcasts! I’m only just getting into them (like Vonna I’m an avid audiobook listener, mostly not-too-challenging mysteries like Dorothy L Sayers and Agatha Christie) and one that I really enjoy (although it’s really a radio programme whose archives you can listen to, rather than a “proper” podcast) is the BBC’s Moral Maze, where a panel of four and four “witnesses” discuss a moral dilemma/problem/topic. They can be a bit challenging, but very interesting!
One reason why English/European stitchers and designers may not have embraced floche yet is that it is very difficult to find here! I’ve got a small collection that I got from Hedgehog Handworks in the US quite a few years ago, but what with postage, VAT, import duties and Royal Mail’s ridiculous £8 handling fee it’s simply prhibitively expensive to get supplies from the US 🙁 Many of the sources that Google brings up for floche in the UK is something called “DMC floche à broder” which on closer inspection turns out not to be floche at all but more like coton à broder – that’s a great thread in itself and I love using it, but it is not floche! I do like floche, but purely because of the problems described above I use it very little, and not at all in any designs I mean to publish because people outside theUS would find it so difficult to get the threads.
Thank you! I always learn and in so many directions, I understand now about podcasts (maybe). I was watching on You Tube…. Now a new world that “Fiber Talk made me do it” has delivered. I live in Montana which has no needlework shop anymore and Fiber Talk keeps me informed and broke. I do counted canvas (fortunate to have lived in LA for a time and most fortunate to have taken may classes from Jean Hilton, a wonderful person), hardanger, and cross stitch, etc. When Nordic Needle was still owned by Roz Watnemo & Susan Meier, my mother and I made a road trip there. Both Roz and Susan have retired, but would be wonderful to have a show with either. I think Roz still designs some and she has broadened hardanger using different fibers and cloth. Save the Stitches is a wonderful reference. And Vonna, thank you for all those positive vibes and your finishing tutorials are so very helpful. I abandoned cross stitch for a long time, but you have renewed my love for it and have turned into a “serial starter”! Now off to order Fiber Talk needle minders. If there are other ways to support your endeavors for keeping us all entertained and informed at the same time, please let us know! Thank You & Merry Christmas! Mary Kay
Mary Kay, Thanks for your kind words and glad we could help you spend your money 😉 and rekindle your love of cross stitch. Thanks also for your support. Needle minders are on their way to you today. Hope you’ll be able to join us tonight for our live show on YouTube. Gary

The life of a military wife, living in upstate New York, and the pandemic catalyzed Caroline Gilman’s interest in needlepoint. Our conversation with Caroline is sponsored by Avlea Folk Embroidery and the Fiber Talk Needle Arts Weekend. During those hours in New York, Caroline found her home with painted-canvas needlepoint. It wasn’t long before she […]
We’re at the center of the week and Cindy and Gary have fired up the recording gear to talk about a new one-day option for the Fiber Talk retreat (wetalkfiber.com/weekend); request for questions for upcoming shows; Gary keeping up with Beth’s Stitch Every Day challenge; storing slate frames, scroll rods, and stretcher bars; marking stretcher […]
Imagine what your plain Jane sneakers would look like if they had a scene embroidered on the sides. Melissa Galbraith did just that and she wrote a book about it to help you turn your canvas shoes into works of art. Melissa is our guest this week and the show is sponsored by Sassy Jacks […]
Our sponsors are CyberPointers and Sassy Jacks Stitchery and our guest is needlepoint artist Kevin Lustik. “Velvetpark” magazine said it best, “Lustik’s imaginative work evokes a folksy Americana, yet upon closer inspection, you are confronted by piercing social commentary. Few artists can pull off hot button issues of the day such as climate change and […]
