Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 1-8-20

Just a few days left to order the Glendon Place limited-edition WITCH design.

We’ve reached the middle of the week once again. This time the conversation is with Debbie Rowley and the topics include the Sassy Jacks Australian benefit chart, a limited-edition design from Glendon Place (order before 1-14-20), ground-cloth storage containers, this week’s Friday Night Live show, Men’s Night at the Attic, stitching Debbie’s Royal Garden design for Vonna’s birthday, and our thoughts on the role of the American Needlepoint Guild in today’s needlework world. Sunday’s guest is Lianne VanLeyen of 1897 Schoolhouse Samplers.–Debbie and Gary

  1. Interesting podcast discussing the ANG and how to bring new members in. I can relate to the comments on “welcoming” new members as when we have had visitors at my Sampler Guild, I tried to greet them and discuss what interested them in needlework. I had the same extension shown to me when I was a visitor. I think it is very important for us as stitchers to not judge fellow stitchers, we should be sharing and celebrating the art of needlework, no matter what size of linen or adia or what threads are being used!

    1. there is a feeling of welcoming…..or non….that all types of groups send out. when we moved 20 years ago, I switched chapters of a different needlework group and felt like an 8th grade girl who had to change schools.

  2. I was shocked to hear what the charter of ANG was since they have placed all the stitch diagrams, even more the most basic of needlepoint stitches, behind the pay wall. How is that encouraging the hobby and teaching others? I was thinking to join ANG (and am a member of EGA) but an organization devoted to needlepoint not being will to share even the most basic of stitch diagrams freely turned me off.

    1. Thanks for listening. As we mentioned in the show, it seems so evaluation of goals is in order.
      Gary
