Fiber Talk with Candice Williams

Artwork by Candice Williams

Candice Williams is our guest this week and the show is sponsored by Fire Poppies Needlework Boutique. Candice is the sister of Kimberly Ann Carter and new owner of Kimberly Ann Needlepoint. Kimberly passed away this past November, leaving behind a family and a growing painted-canvas needlepoint business. Candice didn’t want that business to go away so she combined her artistic talents and willingness to learn needlepoint (she’s now addicted) to keep the business growing. In this week’s conversation we learn about her rapid movement through a somewhat steep learning curve that has generated excitement for needlepoint and all that the needle arts have to offer. Candice is an exciting new addition to the needlepoint world and it will be fun to see her art expressed through canvas.–Gary

Fiber Talk with Susan Winter

The stitching fun happens in this spacious room.

One of the best things in this needle arts world is celebrating a new shop and learning the story behind it. This week that shop is the Fire Poppies Needlework Boutique and the owner, and our guest, is Susan Winter. In our conversation, we’ll answer your first question: Where did the Fire Poppies name come from? The shop will satisfy your favorite stitching technique from cross stitch to counted-canvas needlepoint, hardanger, and surface embroidery. We also talk about the day Susan decided to open a shop, her needlework interests (she’s a full-coverage fanatic), and the wide variety of activities that have already happened and are planned in the coming months (24-hr. pajama parties). We’ll also make you want to travel to Summerville, SC, to spend some time in that beautiful stitching room. Enjoy the show.–Gary

Fiber Talk Live, Stitch with Gary 2-9-20

Please support our sponsor Fire Poppies at firepoppies.com

Fire Poppies (firepoppies.com) is sponsoring this month’s Fiber Talk Live Stitch with Gary show. Gary stitches on his Debbie Rowley Glitz and Glamour Opal counted-canvas needlepoint project. One of the “highlights” is when Gary gets to rip out an entire Rhodes stitch because he didn’t cut the thread long enough.

Also, please consider helping friends of Dr. Gloria Seaman Allen gift the Mary Orr 1831 sampler to the Winterthur Museum in honor of Dr. Allen. To contribute, send a check payable to Winterthur Museum to Ms. Linda Eaton, Director of Collections and Senior Curator of Textiles, 5101 Kennett Pike, Winterthur, DE 19735 or, to contribute with credit card payment, follow this link: http://inside.winterthur.org/give. After selecting a donation amount, set the “Designation” to “Other” and enter “To honor Gloria”.
