Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 3-17-21

Stitched and finished by Jenifer.

A week has passed and we decided to chat again. Jenifer and Gary explore our efforts to modify the Springhill design, the Lorraine Turner podcast from this past Sunday, and the upcoming Di van Niekerk podcast. We also talk at length about the things people can do when they run out of enthusiasm for the stitching project they’re currently working on. Join us tonight for the Fiber Talk Stitch Hour. It’ll be our first of the Thread Talk series with Cathe Ray of Needle in a Haystack (needlestack.com). We start at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on the Fiber Talk YouTube channel. Sunday: Di van Niekirk–Jenifer and Gary

Fiber Talk with Lorraine Turner

Calico wild horses by Lorraine Turner.
Overhead Terrain FreeSpirit fabric design by Lorraine Turner.

Lorraine Turner of Calico Horses is a talented, creative textile artist who uses a variety of needlework techniques and an even greater variety of materials to tell the stories of animals she meets through meditation. She’s also a certified professional animal communicator, successful author, teacher, motivational speaker, designer of FreeSpirit fabrics, Bernina Ambassador, and Aurifil thread designer/educator. In her spare time, she works with her husband to preserve the history of comics and comic books, while borrowing some of the techniques used by those artists to enhance her own work. All of this work and passion is focused on raising funds to help preserve endangered animals. We’re confident you’ll enjoy the conversation with the multi-faceted artist and encourage you to visit her website so you can enjoy her art.–Gary

Fiber Talk with Jane Dunnewold

View of the Harbor by Jane Dunnewold

As a needleworker, Jane Dunnewold doesn’t fit in any clear-cut technique category. Where she does fit is in that group of textile artists who will use just about any material or technique to express a vision. To some degree, her needlework pales in comparison to her contributions as an educator. In this week’s show, sponsored by Avlea Mediterranean Folk Embroidery (avlea.life), we have the pleasure of discussing Jane’s needlework endeavors and digging deep into her educational efforts, particularly her work focused on helping people identify and develop their creative skills through her Creative Strength Training program. Be sure to enjoy her new Facebook Live series, “The Cornerstones of Creativity.” It airs every Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Eastern on her Facebook Channel. We hope this week’s conversation gets your creative juices flowing.–Gary and Beth
