Textile art by Anne Brooke.

Embroidery artist Anne Brooke of HanneMade by Anne, joins us this week in a show that is sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery and the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. Please support our sponsors by shopping at sassyjacksstitchery.com and joining the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. Anne Brooke has developed a terrific business with a no-plan strategy and is having great fun sharing and teaching her needlework skills. She is also an author, has one of the best studio/design spaces we’ve seen, and has developed some innovative and creative projects such as Tagroulette, collage boxes, and Sew4theSoul kits. The H-anne-dashery aspect of her business produces beautiful woodwork products and she regularly offers Project Half Done Days in her classroom. We also explore the many ways she uses recycled/upcycled cloth and other materials in her designs.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk with Sharon Wells

Landscape created by Sharon Wells.
This is one of Sharon’s beautiful textile art landscapes.

Needle felting and textile landscape art are our topics this week when we meet with Irish artist Sharon Wells. This episode of Fiber Talk is sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery. In our conversation with Sharon, we learn about the whole process of needle and wet felting from collecting the wool fleece to processing, dyeing, and selecting the wool and wool textures she uses to create her landscape art. We also learn about the various embroidery techniques and materials, such as bamboo, silk fibers and wire, Sharon employs to create the definition and details that make her landscapes come to life. Sharon is a multi-faceted, talented artist who puts textile art on a new level while helping us enjoy Ireland’s scenery.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk with Elizabeth Tapper

Daisy stump work using antique linen, by Liz Tapper.
Silk and Silver Rose by Liz Tapper.
Sassy Jacks Stitchery is sponsoring this week’s show with Elizabeth Tapper of Lenham Needlecraft and The Art of the Needle. Liz Tapper is a talented needleworker, designer, and graduate of the Royal School of Needlework. She stitches and designs using several techniques, does restoration and conservation, consults, teaches, lectures, and does commission work. We have a great time learning about her needlework journey, approach to designs, and how she’s built her business. We also talk about her lampshade designs: a four-seasons crewelwork series and a beautiful whitework creation. Imagine having a lampshade that shows off your needlework. Be sure to check out her upcoming online courses. She’s offering some good ones in the next couple of months.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk with Ruth Norbury

What Then is Time? by Ruth Norbury
Exit Eternity by Ruth Norbury
Ruth Norbury of Gothic Decay is our guest this week. The show is sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery. Ruth creates her captivating textile art by starting with a reference photo, then building her ground cloth from scraps of fabric. Once the ground cloth is in place, she executes a series of steps that involve an old manual Singer sewing machine, dyes, stencils, stamp pads, and anything else that will give her the image she wants. Then follows an extensive amount of embroidery with lots of French and bullion knots and beads. Most of her materials come from a local thrift shop. This is textile art at its finest, created by someone who has no fear of the question, What if?–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk with Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo

Buddha by Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo
“Threads of Awakening” by Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo

This week’s Fiber Talk guest is Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo. The show is sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery and the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. The focus of our conversation is Leslie’s upcoming book, “Threads of Awakening.” The book tells the story of how Leslie became part of Tibetan culture, studied Buddhism, and the apprenticeship that taught her how to make thangkas. The spiritual and symbolic meaning of thangkas and how they are created is eye-opening for anyone who has worked with needle and thread. Leslie’s book will be available Aug. 23, 2022, and can be pre-ordered wherever you purchase books. She  will also join us for the Fiber Talk Stitch Hour, Wednesday, July 27, at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on the Fiber Talk YouTube channel. We’ll explore some of the thangkas Leslie has made and she will demonstrate some of the techniques she learned during her years as an apprentice. We know you will enjoy the shows and encourage you to purchase the book.–Beth and Gary
