Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 11-1-23

Glitter & Gogh: Etude of The Starry Night by Natalie Dupuis.
Yet another Wednesday has arrived and Beth and Gary have gathered to converse. Our topics include Beth’s new goldwork addiction (“I don’t do goldwork.”), Clara Warschauer’s role in addicting Beth, Gary’s goldwork plans, having respect for copyrights, Lisa Call’s art and her approach to design, Beth dusting off her casket project, tackling lots of WIPs, and dealing with stash when stitchers pass away. Overrated/underrated topics are seam rippers, stretcher bar tacks, and stitching calendars. Join us next Wednesday, Nov. 8, on the Fiber Talk YouTube channel for a Stitch Hour show. Watch later this week on the YouTube channel for long WIP parade of Beth’s projects. It’ll be live at 2:00 Eastern Thursday, Nov. 2. Join us then or watch the recording. Sunday’s guest is Jamie Chalmers, Mr. X Stitch–Beth and Gary

Gary has missed only one day of stitching in January and the banding sampler shows a lot of progress.

We’re back! Finally! Sorry about the long delay and thanks to our listeners for your patience and understanding. This week we talk about Apple service (it’s good) and Apple communication (meh), WIPs and starting/not starting projects, too many WIPs, the new “Needlepoint Now” owners and their first issue, Gary’s first meeting with the Show-Me Stitchers, stretcher bars and storing idle projects, creating that stitching habit, Beth’s family demanding that her HAED come back from the dead, Gay Ann Rogers’ new heart design and her designs in general, our new schedule, and next week’s Stitch Hour guest, Margaret Hagen. Note that there is no Stitch Hour tonight. Sunday’s guest: Anne Brooke of HanneMade by Anne.—Beth and Gary

Backstitching is bringing this one to life for Jenifer.

Wednesday seemed like a good day for a conversation about needlework so Jenifer and Gary fired up the microphones to do a complete rundown of how WIPgo works, what attracts us to designs and designers, cleaning up stitching areas, and whether social media has played a role in us having too many WIPs. Mark your calendars for Dec. 8 when Kathy Andrews will share the art stitching she did while battling breast cancer. Sunday: A tour of Gary’s “sanitized” studio.–Jenifer and Gary

One of Beth’s WIPs.

The calendar says it’s Wednesday, so we chatted. We talked a lot about WIPs, cooked up an old-school sampler project (feel free to join us), discussed the benefits of Gary volunteering at a needlepoint shop, and considered the benefits of practicing needlepainting and other techniques to develop skills without the commitment of a project. Join us tonight for Stitch Hour. Cathe Ray of Needle in a Haystack will join us for another episode of Thread Talk. Tonight’s subject will be selecting the right silk threads for your linen thread count. We start at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on the Fiber Talk YouTube channel. Sunday’s guest: Kathy Andrews.–Beth and Gary
