Fiber Talk with Linda Eaton

Casket and toy designed and stitched by Janet Brandt, Indianapolis, telling story of Little Red Riding Hood after she married the woodcutter.
“Embroidery: The Thread of History” is a new exhibition at the Winterthur Museum. It runs now through Jan. 6, 2019. Linda Eaton, Winterthur’s John L. & Marjorie P. McGraw Director of Collections & Senior Curator of Textiles, joins us this week to talk about Winterthur, the exhibition theme, what goes into putting an exhibition together, and to share some stories behind the various pieces that are being shown. One of the many highlights of the exhibition is a casket and toy designed and stitched by Janet Brandt, Indianapolis, telling story of Little Red Riding Hood after she married the woodcutter. Click here to see a large image of the casket. This is a fascinating look behind the scenes of one of the leading needlework and textile museums/collections. Also, be sure to view the slideshow below to see the various pieces in the exhibition.–Gary and Christine

Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 10-10-18

The sound is rather rocky in this show (technical problems), but it’s Wednesday and we’re chatting, nonetheless. We had a list of topics this week and got to the Jane Wood and Arlene Cohen items, but then veered off the road and talked at length about the psychology of stitching and then moved on to news feeds. We hope the discussion gives you food for thought or, at the least, is interesting. Sunday’s guest: Linda Eaton, head curator at Winterthur.
