Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 3-20-19

It’s time for a midweek pause to contemplate needlework. This week it’s Gary and Arlene and we talk about buying used books, being your own stitcher, the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design, and classes we’d take at the Royal School of Needlework. Sunday’s guest: Tanja Berlin of Berlin Embroidery

  1. Great talk again. I need to finish it, but I wanted to comment on some Japanese Embroidery people. Kay Stanis who lives in Wisconsin, I do believe. Judy Jeroy who is out of Boston. Michele Roberts is another one. Margaret Kinsey too.
I took EGA’s GCC called Spring Splendor by Kay Stanis. She is a fine teacher, but goldwork is not something I love.
    Bought any books yet? 😉

  2. Just catching up on my favourite podcast – – Arlene, you’re so right about the San Francisco School of Needlework! It’s a fabulous place to visit – I am very lucky that I live fairly close by so I work as a volunteer there and also visit whenever I can. There’s never a dull moment – always visitors popping in (which they absolutely love) and when the post arrives, very often with boxes of treasure related to one of the challenges, their world stops while something wonderful is unwrapped and inspected. The School has been embraced by stitchers from all over the world – which the School values tremendously.
Arlene, I agree with you – I’m such a sucker for the library there!
Gary, for the future – the Comprehensive Studies Program at the School is up and running this year. They started with Metalwork and Surface Embroidery – I’m doing the Metalwork – and it’s a fantastic program – LOTS of work but the teaching has been wonderful. They’re adding Counted Thread and Needlepainting to the program next year.
