Fiber Talk with Lorraine Turner

Calico wild horses by Lorraine Turner.
Overhead Terrain FreeSpirit fabric design by Lorraine Turner.

Lorraine Turner of Calico Horses is a talented, creative textile artist who uses a variety of needlework techniques and an even greater variety of materials to tell the stories of animals she meets through meditation. She’s also a certified professional animal communicator, successful author, teacher, motivational speaker, designer of FreeSpirit fabrics, Bernina Ambassador, and Aurifil thread designer/educator. In her spare time, she works with her husband to preserve the history of comics and comic books, while borrowing some of the techniques used by those artists to enhance her own work. All of this work and passion is focused on raising funds to help preserve endangered animals. We’re confident you’ll enjoy the conversation with the multi-faceted artist and encourage you to visit her website so you can enjoy her art.–Gary

Additional slots for solids will open up when Kim is able to increase inventory. Join us tonight for the Fiber Talk Stitch Hour. We’ll tour the new Basket Art exhibition with April as our guide. Fiber Talk with Yvette Stanton II

Yvette Stanton’s new book, Frisian Whitework.

Yvette Stanton, of Vetty Creations, returns for a fun and informative conversation about whitework (obviously), color work (yes, she uses color threads), and several of her books. This week’s show is sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery (sassyjacksstitchery.com) and the Embroiderers Guild of America (egausa.org). In the show, we talk quite a bit about Yvette’s upcoming book, “Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland,” which will be available in Australia soon and in the rest of the world in a couple of months. Watch Yvette’s YouTube videos to see several of the projects that are in the new book. We also learn some history about the roles of various whitework techniques in costumes and other clothing. It’s always a treat to talk with Yvette and we hope you enjoy the conversation.–Beth and Gary
