There is a book by Virginia Postrel titled “The Fabric of Civilization ” How textiles made the world. It’s worth reading. There’s an entire section on silk that gets into what Michael was talking about, that is from cocoon to fabric. The book also has the other innovations that came from making and working with textiles.
