Fiber Talk Special: Caskets

One of the panels on Genie Posnett’s casket.
Interior lid of Mary Barry’s casket.
This week we have a special Fiber Talk show, sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery. For some time Beth has been wanting to do a show about caskets. It took a bit of effort but we think we came up with the right format and are more than confident Beth found the right guests. This week’s show is a video-only program and our guests are skilled casket makers Mary Barry and Genie Posnett. The objective of the show is to share what’s involved in stitching a casket and, in Genie’s case, all that goes into designing and stitching a history-based casket. We cover a wide range of stitching topics that apply to needleworkers at all levels and hope we inspire you to tackle that challenging project you want to attempt but are not convinced you can handle. We hope you’ll take the time to enjoy our conversation and share it with your stitching friends.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk with Alison and Steve Cole

Interior view of Little Bit of Luxe casket by Alison and Steve Cole.
This week’s show is a special video with Alison Cole and her husband Steve. In the video we learn about the Cole’s new casket project, Little Bit of Luxe. This is a project that has been in the works for several years. The needlework design is Alison at her finest and it’s always interesting to learn what’s behind her creations. Equally interesting is the wooden casket that underlies the needlework. It took a great deal of time and several iterations for Steve to create the box and its secret compartments and he shares all that went into that design effort. It’s a fascinating collaboration that resulted in an affordable and approachable casket project. You can watch the video at the Fiber Talk Website, wetalkfiber.com, by going to wetalkfiber.com/casket, or by visiting the Fiber Talk YouTube channel. We hope you enjoy this special Fiber Talk video show and encourage you to visit Alison Cole’s website to learn more.–Beth and Gary

Fiber Talk with Patricia Nguyen II

The Harmony Casket, developed by Tricia Nguyen.

Patricia Nguyen of Thistle Threads returns this week in a show sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery. Our topics this week are perfection being the enemy of good/progress, the impact of social media on needlework expectations, learning from classes without being overwhelmed, and what causes women to lack confidence in their needlework. It’s a thought-provoking conversation and we encourage you to share it with your stitching friends.–Beth and Gary
