Goldwork is our topic this week and Sarah Rakestraw of Golden Hinde Goldwork is our guest. Through their designs, teaching efforts, and extensive offerings of goldwork threads, accessories, and impressive kits, Sarah and her mother, Susan Hinde, have built one of the leading resources for this unique and impressive needleart techniques. This week we learn a bit about the history of goldwork, the technique, their new book, and the materials involved in creating those eye-catching designs. And we learn those things from one of the true talents in the hobby.–Gary

Fiber Talk with Wendy Schmid & April McNee

Wendy Schmid and April McNee are the Fiber Talk guests this week. Wendy is president of the Embroiderers’ Guild NSW and April is the Exhibition & Gallery Coordinator. The Guild is an impressive organization that works tirelessly to promote the art of needlework through its various educational programs and resources and an extensive exhibition schedule that offers something new each month in its three floors of galleries. The Guild’s newly renovated building and its outreach efforts are an integral part of the Concord West community, just outside of Sydney, Australia. Our wide ranging conversation touched on the various activities offered by the Guild and will likely give you ideas for what you might do in your organization.–Gary

Fiber Talk with Vonna Pfeiffer V

It’s the final new show of 2018 and we’re more than happy to have Vonna Pfeiffer join us to end the year. In the show, we covered a mountain of topics including quilting, needlework finishing, stitching spaces, and ergonomics. It’s always fun to talk with Vonna and this time was no exception. Thanks to The Twisted Stitcher and all of the other guests who made 2018 a terrific year for Fiber Talk. Most important, thanks to all of our rapidly growing audience of listeners for listening each week and letting us know how much you enjoy the shows. Tudor Rose: San Francisco School of Needlework & Design

Lucy Barter and Ellice Sperber are our guests this week. These two passionate embroiderers founded the San Francisco School of Needlework & Design in 2015 and have rapidly built it into a force in the needlearts community. The school offers a wide range technique classes, taught by experienced and dedicated masters of the art, in a collegial environment aimed at sharing the pleasures of needlework. In this week’s show learn about those techniques, the school’s quest to attract new/young stitchers, and the exciting Stitch-at-Home Challenge program. The San Francisco School is an organization that all stitchers should seek out because their programs will help you improve your skills and expand your needlework horizons.-–Gary and Christine
