Fiber Talk with Joanna Somers

Ohio Birds, one of the early designs from Joanna Somers.
Joanna Somers is a needlepoint stitcher; painted-canvas designer, painter, and curator; and owner of The Plum Stitchery, a terrific source for unique, artistic canvases. She’s a young designer who is contributing a new look to the painted-canvas landscape. You’ll enjoy learning how she got started in the needlepoint world, how she develops her own designs, and the process she uses to find artists and convert their paintings and illustrations to needlepoint canvas.–Gary

Fiber Talk with Nancy Lukoskie

A challenging Fancywork Finishing kneeler project at Bruton Parish.

Master needlepoint artisan Nancy Lukoskie of Fancywork Finishing joins us this week. Nancy’s passion for the heritage of stitching, ecclesiastical needlepoint design, and finishing began when she was just 19. More than 38 years later, Nancy and her team at Fancywork Finishing have brought beauty and joy to many spiritual communities, including the Washington National Cathedral in Washington D.C., Trinity Church Manhattan in New York City, and the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah. Her team of artisans design, paint, finish, and restore needlepoint artwork for clients based upon their ecclesiastic traditions, unique history, and spiritual symbolism. This is needlepoint at its traditional core and we’re confident you’ll enjoy hearing from one of the masters.–Gary and Christine

Fiber Talk at the Nashville Market VIII

In Nashville Market video 20 Paulette Stewart of Plum Street Samplers gives us a tour of her latest designs, which include a couple of which contain some rather fancy cows, a very attractive tart, and the first two sets of a series of ornaments.

In our 21st video from the Nashville Market, Julia Snyder of & More share their line of products including painted needlepoint canvases, cross-stitch designs, threads, books, a hook-and-loop canvas mounting method, and what looks to be a terrific LED lamp.

In video 22 we meet Ronnie Rowe of Ronnie Rowe Designs and are treated to a tour of his fascinating cross-stitch designs. He does a terrific job of delivering subjects in a dimensional style that has much of the depth/dimension of photographs.

In video 23 we visit AnnaLee Waite of AnnaLee Waite Designs and are treated to her many designs including a burlap bag kit, a sampler, and several small designs, including a boy/girl bunny pair.
