Fiber Talk with Nordic Needle

Ryan Evelyth, Christian Braden, Mary Ann Ouradnik, and Cassie Slaby (l-r) from Nordic Needle.

Four members of the Nordic Needle staff join us this week to talk about one of the largest online businesses in the needlework hobby. We had a great time talking with co-owners Ryan Evelyth and Christian Braden, purchaser Mary Ann Ouradnik, and shop supervisor Cassie Slaby. You’ll enjoy the story about how Nordic Needle got started and grew from a small local business to an international resource operated by dedicated people, driven by a mission to keep alive as many of the traditional cultural stitching techniques as possible.–Christine and Gary

  1. Can I join you on your road trip, Gary and Christine? 🙂 I’d LOVE to visit Nordic Needle!

    1. Be careful what you ask for. A road trip may just be in the future. Hurry up with that new book!

  2. Gary, during the podcast you mentioned a needleworker in Germany who you follow that does whitework. Could you include her name and a link to her blog or website? Thanks!

Keep these Fiber Talks going! Love them!

    1. First, thanks for listening and we’re glad you’re enjoying the shows.
The person I was referring to is Luzine Happel and her specialty is Schwalm whitework. She does some outstanding work.

  3. I really enjoy listening to Fiber Talk and you have some great guests. It has been great to listen to other male stitchers. There are not very many of us. I am very fortunate in that the guilds and stitching groups in the DFW area have welcomed me into their groups. Also great support from the needlework stores in the area. Once a year I travel to Arizona to attend one of the Attic Needlework classes. I am mainly a cross stitcher (over 30 years) so have really enjoyed your discussions. In the past few years I have done some counted canvas and a couple of years ago I purchased my first painted canvas. Listening to your show now has me very interested in some other techniques. Thanks again for doing these podcasts. They are very informative and educational.

    1. Thanks for listening and we’re glad you are enjoying the shows. Hope you’ll “branch out” and try some of the other techniques. I really enjoy hardanger, though I don’t do a lot of it.

  4. Listening to your Nordic Needle podcast. Did you even spend any time reviewing their website. They and Needle in a Haystack are the leading purveyors of fabric for all forms of needlework. Huck stitching should not have been a surprise. 2nd – Shakespeare’s Flowers by Jane Nicholas is well known, a very advance stitching book and not a starter stumpwork book. Jane herself is an Australia based teacher whose classes go to lottery, demand is so high.
Please please read more background information before talking.
