Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 9-18-19

A Twisted Stitcher finish.

It’s Wednesday and it’s a long chat, so get some extra beer/wine or do another lap of your walking route. As always, we’re sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery. Please support them because they help make these podcasts possible. Our topics include our plans to participate in the Bristol Orphanage Sampler event at Sassy Jacks in October, live shows, our Queen’s Sampler experiences, storing threads and charts, and our upcoming Fiber Talk Starters series. Then the show got long and it’s all Joanie Raimindo’s fault. She asked a question about away and waste knots and that launched a serious needlework discussion. There’s learning to be done in that last 30 min. We hope you enjoy the show.–Vonna and Gary

  1. Did you said couple week a so about having a series of basic cross stitch are you still going to try it i wont like a refresher video

  2. Yes, recording the first two this week. Thanks for asking and listening.
    Gary

    1. Thank for answering i look forward to the refresh course of basic cross stitch i just go back into it after a few years ,
      Thank you
We are going to sassy jack for my sister 70 birthday for a day of shopping then go get there pizza

  3. I organize my charts in a binder system by designer. At first I had them organized by season and that just didn’t work for me. Using extra large binders with a D ring, plastic sleeves for the charts, and arranged by designer. (I put an index card on the outside sleeve of the binder that lists the designers in that binder) One binder is for stuff that I may only have one of, or not many of that designer. I store my linen hung over a plastic hanger, with a paper tag(has a hole with thread to attach to the linen). Tag is labeled with the count, color of linen then covered with a cotton pillow case over the hanger. To protect from dirt and dust. (nothing adhesive to touch my linen) My threads are in a cardboard box (Floss Tote) in Floss-A-Way baggies using index cards as dividers for the number of the color. I still use an index card to track my threads. I have some projects kitted up and refer to my index cards for thread colors to see if I already have them. I believe there are apps to use on smart phones to track colors. I just take a picture of my index card and have that on my phone(uses less data). Looking forward to the beginner classes even though I have been stitching for decades(self-taught).

    1. The binder system fits my needs since I don’t have nearly as many charts as Vonna. The other suggestions are good, too, but I think I’ll be headed to Office Max/Staples for a binder or two.
      Thanks,
      Gary

  4. Hi Gary !!!
I am so happy to hear that your are doing some beginner basics. I have been stitching so many years. Mostly Quilting and a lot of embroidering !!! I haven’t cross stitched in 30 years , since my kids were babies. And back then it was the kits on Aida Cloth. I thought I’d never be interested in stitching cross stitch ever again. But once I started listening to you and Vonna, I just want to stitch something. I have visited Sassy Jacks website many times and I’m lost !!! I do not know where to start. But I certainly have fun looking . Can’t wait for your videos !! I enjoy listening to you and Vonna so much, even though sometimes I can’t follow what you are talking about.
    Thank you ! Thank you!!
