Fiber Talk with Clare Hunter II, Encore

Miao embroidery from the book Threads of Life.

During our holiday break, we offer an encore of the second show we did with Clare Hunter, author of “Threads of Life.” In this show, sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery, we talk with Clare about the inspiration behind her book, the work that went into assembling all of the historical information, writing a history book and making it easy to read, and some of the people who helped make it possible. We also gain some additional insight into some of the people and historical events she experienced while writing “Threads of Life.”–Gary

  1. So enjoyed listening and ready to dig into my just arrived copy of Threads of Life! I am still a new listener and hope I can afford this new listening enrichment..a new book and ordered a K’s Creation Z lap stand in just a week…Thanks Gary!

    1. You’ll love the book. Thanks for listening/watching. Remember, if you get any grief, #fibertalkmademebuyit. We’re glad to take the heat. 😉

  2. Clare Hunter’s book has been very well received here. I review books for Auckland Embroiderers’ Guild monthly newsletter, which may be accessed on our website, https://aeg.org.nz/. I have never had such an enthusiastic feedback from members as I have for Clare’s book. I have donated a copy to our guild’s library. I have let our newsletter editor know about your podcast with Clare, which was so enjoyable.

BTW, I visited the USA and Canada in August last year. It was my first ever visit. My youngest son is waiting for his visa so he can marry his lovely, lovely America fiancee. I was truly blessed to stay with friends of Sarah’s in Wisconsin. Sarah took me to a HUGE craft shop in a lovely city called Stevens Point. Well, huge by New Zealand standards! I was utterly amazed that DMC cost US 0.57c (+tax). In Canada, another daughter-in-law took me to a shop in Paris, Ontario, where, it was, I think, 87c Canadian a skein. Here in New Zealand, we pay around US 1.20 per skein. I thought I’d be smart and order some DMC from Herrschers online but they are only allowed to sell to the USA and Canada. I know our retailers really look after their customers and I have been able to find out that what we pay here in the RRP. I feel we are being ripped off here by DMC! Or am I being a bit paranoid?
Anyway, keep up the great work.
