Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 1-20-21

From the needle of Sharon Bruce.

Tuesday has passed and it’s time for another mid-week chat. Beth and Gary explore our need/desire to mix up our stitching activities and what we’d like that mixture to be. We also talk about the 100-day project challenge (the100dayproject.org and #ft100day2021) and how it might fit work with the concept of stream-of-consciousness stitching. Then we delve into the never-ending problem of thread/stash organization. We’d like to hear what you think about these topics. Sunday’s guest: Jennifer Clouston—Beth and Gary

  1. I’m pretty happy with my thread organization, although I don’t have a skein by skein listing. I have a set of 8 fairly deep plastic drawers, each one devoted to a thread type. Wool; wool blends; silk; silk blends; metallics; flower thread and other matte cotton (like coton a broder); variegated cotton like watercolors; DMC on bobbins. And then within each drawer, I use drawer dividers to separate either by company or color. I also have a smaller set of drawers for perle cotton, separated first by weight then by color families, a big DMC cabinet, and all my Gentle Arts are on hangers alphabetically. I tend to first want a specific type of thread and only secondarily a color or company, so this works well for me.
