Fiber Talk with Dr. Susan Kay-Williams & Dr. Isabella Rosner, RSN

Dr. Susan Kay-Williams, Executive Director of the Royal School of Needlework, returns this week, along with RSN Curator Dr. Isabella Rosner, in a show sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery. Our topic for this sixth visit from the folks at the Royal School is digitizing the entire Royal School of Needlework collection. This is the second, along with the RSN Stitch Bank, project that promises to significantly change the knowledge base needleworkers have at their disposal. Even more valuable is that the digitized collection and the RSN Stitch Bank will be connected in many ways. Maybe the best part is that these two monumental resources will be freely available to all needleworkers. In our conversation, we learn how this project got started, the vast amount of information that will be available, and when we’ll start seeing items from the collection. As with all other RSN activities, it pays to have your name on the school’s mailing list so you can keep up to date. Dr. Susan Kay-Williams, Executive Director of the Royal School of Needlework, returns this week in a show sponsored by Sassy Jacks Stitchery. Fiber Talk Remembers Carole Lake

Carole Lake of Stitch Play Designs departed from us on January 5. If we can have legends in the needle arts community, Carole certainly was one. Her designs and books, solo or with her needlework partner Michael Boren, are some of the best we’ve seen and owning some or all of her books is almost essential for needlepointers. In addition to writing and designing, her classes were always in high demand. She achieved so much and gave so much to the needle arts community and we’ll all miss her, especially her family and stitching friends. To honor and remember Carole, this week we replay the Fiber Talk conversation we had with her in June 2018. Thank you, Carole, and rest in peace.—-Gary, Beth, Jenifer, and Cindy

Fiber Talk with the Needlepoint Dads

Once Around the Sun by Needlepoint Dad Dan Blackwelder has proven to be a popular design.
Harvey Kravis and Dan Blackwelder, The Needlepoint Dads, join us this week for a guys-only conversation sponsored by Cyberpointers, the only online chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild. Harvey and Dan followed two different paths to needlepoint and have been stitching for most of their adult lives. Dan is a counted-canvas designer and Harvey enjoys reproducing old-master paintings. They connected through the Needlepoint Nation group on Facebook and decided to pool their talents and start a business. Dan is the needlepoint creator and Harvey handles all of the technical aspects of the business. When they are not developing and providing charts to stitchers, they both spend their time stitching generally large projects. Dan stitches mostly in hand and Harvey relies on his scroll frame. We had a great time talking about needlework from the male perspective and exploring what the Needlepoint Dads business offers for all stitchers.–Gary
