Arlene Cohen is our guest this week. Who is Arlene? She’s an extremely versatile and talented needlework artist and lace maker, owner of the Etsy shop WorksByABC, and produces some of the most interesting and informative Flosstube videos available. Skilled with needle and thread? Yes, and then some. At the recently completed ANG Seminar, Arlene earned category first place, Judges’ Choice, Presidents Award, and Delegates Choice awards for her Spanish Savonnerie (Natalia Frank) piece, stitched on 40-ct. silk gauze. We hope you enjoy this week’s conversation in which we cover a wide range of stitching topics.–Gary and Christine

We hope you enjoy this week’s conversation Arlene Cohen. We’re always looking for guests, so let us know if there is someone you’d like us to have on the show.–Gary and Christine
I have been enjoying your podcasts for some weeks now. I am a “solitary” stitcher in many ways, though enjoy the companionship of other stitchers as well. I have recently moved to a new state and have not yet set up my “community”. So these sessions fill a need.
As a suggestion for other fiber artists to have on your chats, have you thought of Kathy Rees (counted canvas), Margaret Bendig (needlepoint designer), Sue Hillis (cross stitch) or Sandra Cox Vanosdall (cross stitch-Sweetheart Tree). All are designers and teachers I have met and taken classes from over the years. All are delightful women who would add dimension, vitality and excitement to the stitching community.
Linda, thanks for listening. I’m glad we could become your “community.” Don’t forget us when you find a group of stitchers in your area. 😉 Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll add ’em to the list.

Truly enjoyed the Fiber Talk with Arlene Cohen. She is the first designer that I heard of who came from an artistic background but was a practicing mathmatician as a middle school teacher.
I liked how she “fell” into the stitching process by simply coming across a cross stitch pattern and how her stitching/designing process evolved. The creativity of the needle is so very interesting and how she got her influences from other people etc. to what she designs today was very encouraging and intriging. Great interview!!
Vickie,
Glad you enjoyed the show. We had a lot of fun recording it. It’s always a pleasure to talk with Arlene. She has such a fresh perspective.
