Fiber Talk with Lianne van Leyen

Fanny Crompton 1833 coming soon from 1897 Schoolhouse Samplers.

Our guest this week is Lianne van Leyen of 1897 Schoolhouse Samplers and our show is sponsored by The Attic Needlework shop, where samplers rule. Be sure to check out the January Sampler of the Month (not the December Sampler as Gary said), Pour Ta Fete from Lindsay Lane Designs.

Lianne van Leyen has a fascinating work and personal life, in addition to being a talented needleworker and sampler reproduction artist. We had a terrific time learning about Lianne and her approach to sampler reproduction. You’ll also get to learn why her company is named 1897 Schoolhouse Samplers. We’re confident you’ll enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed recording the show. Also, be sure to download the free Louisa Acton chart from 1897 Schoolhouse Samplers and join the SAL on Lianne’s Facebook page. Fiber Talk with Jean Lea

The Attic store with tables for classes and samplers covering the walls.
Elizabethan Treasures from Linda Barry, considered by Jean to be one of the best whitework samplers ever published.

If you stitch samplers for very long you’ll likely encounter the Attic Needlework & Collectibles shop in Mesa, AZ, and sampler addict/owner Jean Lea. She is our guest this week for a terrific conversation about how this hub of the sampler world came to be; its many offerings, classes, retreats, and charitable activities, and the obsession Jean has with samplers of all kinds, particularly reproduction samplers. Shop visitors can easily spend a day exploring the large collection of samplers on display and learning about their history, in addition to thousands of other cross-stitch charts and supplies. We hope you enjoy the conversation as much as we did.–Christine and Gary
