Christine and Gary are taking a holiday week off, so no new show today or this coming Sunday. But we thought new people might be interested in a very popular show from July and long-time listeners might enjoy listening again. This is the show in which Christine talks about her job and how her company helps people in the Jamaican rainforests generate income and build lives for themselves. Thanks to everyone for listening and Happy Thanksgiving to all of our U.S. listeners.–Christine and Gary
Christine returns from her travels and we get to learn about her difference-making job and the role her company plays helping castor-bean farmers in the rainforests of Jamaica. She also got a little beach time during the trip.–Gary and Christine
Celeste Chalasani is this week’s guest and stumpwork is the topic. She is a designer and teacher and has taught extensively for the Embroiderers’ Guild of America (EGA) at chapter workshops, regional and national seminars; for Blue Bonnet Studio Time; and for the National Academy of Needlearts. Celeste currently teaches an online class for Craftsy and previously taught online classes for EGA Online Studio (2015) and Craft University (a division of Interweave, 2013). She has class proposals accepted for 2018 Blue Bonnet Studio Time, Great Lakes Region EGA 2018 Seminar, 2018 South Central Region EGA Seminar and Greater Pacific Region EGA 2018 Seminar. Celeste has also written an Individual Correspondence Course on Stumpwork for EGA.
Chalasani first learned embroidery, sewing, and crochet as a young child from her grandmother. Her passion for stumpwork was sparked when she joined EGA in 1999. A life-long learner, she completed the City & Guilds Level 1 and 2 Certificate in Design and Craft Stumpwork distance courses under the tutelage of Chris Hammacott. Celeste is currently enrolled in the National Academy of Needlearts Teachers’ Certification program. We hope you enjoy this week’s conversation.–Christine and Gary

We’re off to Bavaria this week to talk to embroidery teacher and designer Jessica Grimm. In 2011, Jessica left her career as an archeozoologist to become a needlework teacher. In 2014 she and her husband relocated to Bavaria where she “lives to stitch, loves fair trade, has a vegetable plot, and avoids processed foods.” Jessica studied at the Royal School of Needlework and taught several of their classes in England and the U.S. She is proficient in a variety of stitching techniques, some rather unusual. Through her workshops and courses, she spreads the love for embroidery as widely as possible. We hope you enjoy our conversation with Jessica. At the very least, you’ll learn a bit about archeozoology.–Christine and Gary
