Fiber Talk with Ann-Marie Anderson Mayes

Chaise Longue 3D needlework design by Ann-Marie Anderson-Mayes.

Ann-Marie Anderson-Mayes is my guest this week. She is owner of Beautiful Stitches in Perth, Australia and is a needle artist, designer, teacher, and thread dyer. When she’s teaching, her focus is as much on developing student confidence as it is on needlework. Her designs are brightly colored, unique creations that use a variety of threads, stitches, and techniques. Ann-Marie is probably best known for her 3D designs, specifically her Chaise Longue and William Morris chair creations. While the chairs look complex, Ann-Marie indicates that they are relatively easy to put together and I can assure you the results are quite stunning. It was an absolute treat to talk with Ann-Marie and I’m confident you’ll enjoy learning more about this talented and enthusiastic needleworker.–Gary

Guild president Wendy Schmid (right) receives the 2018 Arts and Culture Citizen of the Year award.

Wendy Schmid and April McNee are the Fiber Talk guests this week. Wendy is president of the Embroiderers’ Guild NSW and April is the Exhibition & Gallery Coordinator. The Guild is an impressive organization that works tirelessly to promote the art of needlework through its various educational programs and resources and an extensive exhibition schedule that offers something new each month in its three floors of galleries. The Guild’s newly renovated building and its outreach efforts are an integral part of the Concord West community, just outside of Sydney, Australia. Our wide ranging conversation touched on the various activities offered by the Guild and will likely give you ideas for what you might do in your organization.–Gary
