Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 8-14-19

The Twisted Stitcher finished these.

We have reached the middle of the week once again. Vonna and Gary are the chatters and Sassy Jacks Stitchery is the sponsor. As for topics, Vonna bought a couple of samplers because she didn’t have enough and Gary bought another set of noise-canceling headphones and they’re the best ever! After we talked about those two topics, we discussed stitching in hand, which led to talking about Nicole Neville, the queen of stitching in hand. Then we talked about needlework, moved on to stitching, mentioned some music, and then discussed needle-and-thread activities. We could have gone on for another 30 min., but Gary cut it off and we said good bye. Hope you enjoy the show.–Vonna and Gary

Fiber Talk with Alison Cole II

Epaulet detail from the suit of lights in Alison Cole’s collection.

Well-executed goldwork is jaw-dropping, whether you have a clue about needlework or not. It also often intimidating to needleworkers who are considering giving it a go. No need to fear. Alison Cole returns this week with a new book, “The Goldwork Masterclass,” and some words of advice that will eliminate your apprehension and give you all of the information you’ll need to have success with the technique (Pre-order pricing is in effect for a short while at Alison’s website and, for U.S. people, at the Stitching Shop in Denver). We also get to learn a good deal of goldwork history and about Alison’s goldwork-antique collection, including her amazing suit of lights. If you’re not already, you’ll be tempted to try goldwork after listing to the show.–Gary

REPOST: Fiber Talk with Deb Jochim

NOTE: This is a repost of the Aug. 4, 2019 show. Due to a file uploading error, some podcast apps did not pick up the podcast. Here’s hoping this repost fixes things. Sorry for the hassle. Gary

Punch Needle & Primitive Stitcher magazine.

Our guest this week is Deb Jochim, owner and editor of Punch Needle & Primitive Stitcher magazine. This week’s show is sponsored by The Attic Needlework shop in Mesa, AZ, where samplers rule. Our conversation with Deb explored how the magazine got started, what Deb is doing with it today, Deb’s stitching and design work, and Vonna’s finishing contributions. It’s a good look behind-the-scenes of a terrific magazine created by a talented needleworker. We hope you enjoy the show.–Gary and Vonna
